Warner Music Group Subpoened By New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer

Posten on: 2008-06-13 00:40:59

Warner Music Group has been subpoenaed by New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer in connection with an ongoing antitrust investigation into the pricing of digital music downloads, which WMG reported in a securities filing on December 23.The investigation also could be related to the studios' upcoming licensing renegotiations with iPod manufacturer Apple and its iTunes music store, the sources claimed. You'll recall that back in September, Apple CEO Steve Jobs called the music industry "greedy" for wanting to increase digital download prices and predicted that such a move has the potential to drive iPod users to piracy. WMG recently had dealings with the New York Attorney General's office when it agreed to a five-million dollar settlement in a "pay-for-play" investigation into how the music industry influences which songs are played on the radio
