R. Kelly Responds To Tour Scam Allegations, Welcomes Investigators

In response to yet another legal issue, R.Kelly says he has nothing to do with a South African woman who reportedly used his name to pull thousands from investors looking to bring the singer to the country.In a statement released Thursday, the R&B singer/songwriter's publicist wrote: "There is absolutely no truth to the reports that R. Kelly received money from a South African woman accused of swindling investors by convincing them to invest in a non-existent R. Kelly tour in 2005. Mr. Kelly has no knowledge of this woman, has never received any money from her, and has not been contacted by any law enforcement authorities regarding the matter. He will, of course, cooperate fully with any legitimate investigation of this matter, since he has nothing to hide."According to WENN, Busiswe Zakwe deposited the $130,000 secured for a concert in 2005 in the singer's bank account. Investigators have determined that the deposit slip found in the woman's office proves that the transaction took place and have confirmed that the account belongs to the Grammy winner, whose legal name is Robert Kelly.Zakwe is due in court September 10th.In related news the R&B singer is battling club promoters in Los Angeles who reportedly used his name to promote an event that Kelly claims he had no knowledge of. The promoters have been charged with violations of statutory right of publicity, common law right of publicity, unfair competition law and false endorsement.

New R. Kelly Lawsuit, Singer Sues LA Club Promoters

R. Kelly is yet again involved in a legal battle this week. According to a lawsuit filed on Friday, Kelly is suing two club promoters for allegedly using his name without permission. In the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County Superior court, Toi Crawford and Shane Mooney, promoters at Sugar Night Club in Hollywood were charged with violation of statutory right of publicity, common law of publicity, unfair competition law and false endorsement after they allegedly promoted an event to be hosted by R.Kelly – an event the R&B singer knew nothing about. According to TMZ, the 14-page complaint states that R.Kelly has suffered irreparable harm and damage due to this event. The suit also stems from flyers that were allegedly made with Kelly's name in order to generate a larger audience. In related news, the R&B singer/songwriter is set to release his next album "12 Play" this fall despite a series of leaked tracks that surfaced online in recent weeks.

The multiple Grammy winning Pied Piper of R&B has done it again with the release his highly anticipated 9th solo studio album “Double Up.” Heavily influenced by the Dirty South Hip-Hop craze that has been sweeping the nation for over 3 years strong, this record is a lot different than most of Kell’s other releases because he takes a stab at rapping. This might not have been intentional but R. Kelly becomes somewhat of a narrator during the tracks. He really pumps out the club bangers on “Double Up” with songs like "Trying to Get a Number," "Get Dirty," and the slower jam "Get Freaky in the Club," which are sure to be hits. Update: R. Kelly On Time For Court Hearing

Singer R. Kelly was in the Cook County Courthouse in Chicago on Monday (January 14th) for a hearing in his child pornography case. During the proceedings Judge Vincent Gaughan again rejected the prosecution's request to have a doctor testify about why the girl in the case would deny she was the victim. Kelly is facing several charges after videotaping himself engaging in sex with an underage girl. The case has been delayed for more than five years, and the girl involved has since denied that she was the female pictured in the video. Prosecutors turned to Dr. Sharon Cooper, a forensic and developmental pediatrician, planning to have her testify that victims of child abuse tend to deny their abuse. Gaughan previously stuck down the prospect of having Cooper testify, and reaffirmed the ruling again on Monday.

Update: Judge Barks at R. Kelly, Orders Singer to Cancel Tour Date

R&B singer R. Kelly did not get his bonded revoked for missing a crucial court date in his child pornography case, but a judge gave him a stern warning. Kelly apologized to Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan, who set a May 9 trial date. He missed his Wednesday court appearance when his tour bus was delayed in Utah because its logbooks didn't document enough rest time for the driver. Gaughan said that in similar situations in the future, Kelly must fly to make his court dates on time.He also ordered the singer to cancel a Jan. 13 concert to ensure that he makes a Jan. 14 court date. Kelly, 40, has pleaded not guilty to child pornography charges for allegedly videotaping sex acts with a young teenage girl in or before 2000.
