According to Chaly, the bat-winged skull that serves as both OverKill's mascot and spokesperson, drummer Tim Mallare has left the group. The band is currently on the road in support of their "RELIXIV" album. Here's the official statement from Chaly... "Tim Mallare has left the band, due to his own accord. His contribution over the last 14 years have been at the highest level. He will be missed! THANKS TIM! Joining the "Kill" is NJ's own Ron Lipnicki of "Hades" fame. His work and talents have been tireless through the bands Euro tour. Overkill looks forward to presenting their newest member to YOU on the road! There we have it! It is now official!"" SEATTLE METAL FESTIVAL RETURNS IN 2007 WITH HEADLINERS OVERKILL AND 7 NATIONAL ACTS SEATTLE- Returning after a three-year hiatus, the Seattle Metal Festival will be on Jan 20, 2007, at The Showbox in Seattle, Washington. This year's lineup - a mixture of metal veterans from the US and abroad, as well as up and coming national acts - will be: Overkill, God Forbid, Destruction, Into Eternity, Ghoatwhore, The Human Abstract, Mnemic, and Arsis. The festival is promoted by Frank Hetzel of Howitzer Productions and the main sponsor is Dragon Monkey Media. Hetzel is the creator of the Seattle Metal Festival and the Northwest Deathfest, as well as the promoter of many metal shows in the Seattle area. "I put the Seattle Metal Fest on the back burner for a while because I felt that it should become a stronger festival- a show with great national metal acts that people would travel from all over the Pacific Northwest to see," said Hetzel. "It took some time to work out the logistics for a festival of this size and with the help of Dragon Monkey Media; the show is coming together smoothly." Dragon Monkey Media LLC is a Northwest-based media company promoting local musicians and artists by providing an internet resource to allow them to showcase their artistic works through its associated record label, Hot Monkey Records, and its affiliated production company, Dark Angel Productions. Tickets go on sale Saturday, November 11 through Tickets West (www.ticketswest.com) and The Showbox box office, as well as www.seattlemetalfest.com, Silver Platters in Seattle, and Scrape Records in Vancouver, B.C. The Showbox is located at 1426 1st Ave. in Seattle, WA (www.showboxonline.com, 206-628-3151). Tickets will be $25.00 advance and $30.00 day of show. The Gauntlet recently caught up with Overkill bassist D.D. Vernie and asked him about recording a track with lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe. "Randy flew in and laid down some vocals for the track Skull & Bones" stated D.D. Vernie. "It was really cool as we have never had anyone else on the previous albums. No guests or anybody; no singers or guitarists. Lamb of God was out with us on Gigantour and we got close with them drinking beers. We got to talking and said they should do a song on our record. It was off the cuff, the stuff that happens when you are drinking on the road. As we started getting closer to recording, Blitz and I were talking and said this song could work with him. Blitz tailored the vocals to have a back and forth kind of thing and we gave Randy a call while he was in Australia. We asked if he was up for it and he said ‘hell yeah!' We sent him the tune and he learned it over a couple days. When they got back from the tour he flew up to my studio. He had some ideas for some of the parts. We sat in with him. It came out really cool. Randy and Blitz's voices are so different. It isn't like you have two guys whose voices are similar. This is as completely different as you could ever imagine and that is what makes it interesting. To me the whole thing works. It is an Overkill song, not a Lamb of God song. We would have done the song with or without Randy singing on it. It is still the style we do with the Overkill vibe. It is just Randy lending his voice on it. He completely killed on it. It has a different kind of riffing and everything. I think the Lamb of God kids and Overkill kids will think that it is interesting. The whole thing works. You'll have to hear it. We love it." Overkill will release its new album, "Immortalis" via Bodog Music on October 9.
