Beyonce Says Check On It Was A Joke

Posten on: 2008-10-26 01:59:30

Beyonce is starring alongside Steve Martin and Kevin Kline in the big screen comedy The Pink Panther. Meanwhile, the tune she contributed to the film, "Check On It," featuring Slim Thug and co-produced by Swizz Beatz, has already risen to the Number One spot on Billboard's Top 100 songs chart. The tune is included on the Destiny's Child album, #1s. The Destiny's Child diva says that initially the track was a throwaway from a previous project, but she remembered its comic spirit when it came time to supply music to the Pink Panther film. She never imagined it would be a hit tune, as Beyonce stated: "'Check On It' started out as a joke because I got a really bad track and I couldn't write anything to it, so we started playing around and started saying 'check on it!'And I remembered it, and when they said they wanted something for the movie I thought, well, even though it's silly it's fun. And this movie is a comedy and it's all about fun. So I finished writing it, put the Pink Panther theme music in the beginning and shot the video. And it became a Number One song." Beyonce has already begun shooting her role as Deana in the all-star film version of Dream Girls. She says she has also begun writing songs for her next solo project. Meanwhile, Destiny's Child has announced its retirement, the glam trio will make another farewell appearance February 19th at the NBA All Star Game in Houston. Beyonce will join Kelly Rowland and Michele Williams to perform the national anthem at the 55th annual basketball blowout. Source: HipHop Hovoc

Mario's manager fires back with his own lawsuit

Posten on: 2008-10-26 01:59:30

R&B singer Mario's former manager Troy Patterson has responded to the singer's lawsuit by counter suing the 19-year-old's J Records company and his mother. Patterson is accused by the Mario of pocketing hundreds of thousands of dollars from his phenomenal record sales, but Patterson insists he and his production company Third Street Music have not received any royalties they were not entitled to. He also insists he was responsible for developing the star's talent and protecting him from his allegedly drug-dependant mother. Patterson has asked New York City's Federal Court to declare Third Street's agreements valid, since J Records have been excluding him from the recording process, despite owning approval rights. J Records manager Mathew Knowles claims he should not be part of the suit, saying, "I wasn't involved with the recording process." Fellow manager Julias 'J' Erving, says, "We are not in the business of interfering. We just want to move forward and do good business with Mario."

Posten on: 2008-10-26 01:59:30

R&B/Soul legend Aretha Franklin is on a crash diet in order to lose weight before her wedding next month. The singer has signed up with Jenny Craig and is limiting herself to 1,750 calories-a-day in an effort to drop some pounds. Franklin says, "I'm at 1,750 calories a day and I'm starving.""You just have to get used to portions and changing your lifestyle."Franklin, who will marry boyfriend Willie Wilkerson Jr. next month, insists she knows the Jenny Craig diet works - because she has seen amazing results in the past. She tells Sister 2 Sister magazine, "I lost 23 or 24 pounds to begin with, but it's kind of a strain when you get to 23 or 24 pounds. That's why I got off of it.""It's a strain because you're eating the Jenny Craig-type meals, which are very good. But you can only eat them for so long before you want some barbecue ribs or some pigs feet.""Once you get off that Jenny Craig thing and you start eating what you've been eating, it's all over."

Bobby Valentino's "Anonymous" Smashes Urban Radio

Posten on: 2008-10-26 01:59:29

The smooth and sexy ways of Bobby Valentino, the first R&B artist signed to Ludacris’ Disturbing Tha Peace Records, are bringing him back to the top of the charts – as his brand new single “Anonymous” (featuring Timbaland) comes in as the #1 Most-Added record in its impact week at Urban radio. “Anonymous” sets the stage for the May 8th arrival in-stores of Bobby’s long-awaited second album, SPECIAL OCCASION. Bobby has co-written more than three-fourths of the new album, which also boasts songwriting and production credits from award winning hit makers such as Sean Garrett, Tim & Bob, Delite, Bryan Michael Cox, Dre & Vidal, Timbaland and Rodney Jerkins . One of SPECIAL OCCASION’s earlier advance tracks, “Turn The Page” (described as “a heartfelt and emotional ballad about trust, love and taking chances in a relationship”) – which was also the #1 Most-Added single at Urban Mainstream radio upon its release. SPECIAL OCCASION is the follow-up to Disturbing Tha Peace Presents: Bobby Valentino, his self-titled debut album of April 2005. His premiere single, the RIAA gold “Slow Down,” rocketed to #1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip Hop Singles & Tracks chart and bulleted inside the Top 10 on the Hot 100. Bobby’s debut album shot rose to #1 R&B/#3 pop and was also certified RIAA gold, making him the R&B success story of the year. Channeling the sounds of Babyface, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Prince and other classic R&B greats in his music, Bobby Valentino tapped into a soul-starved marketplace that can’t seem to get enough of him. Born in Jackson, Mississippi, and raised in Atlanta, the 25-year old first tasted stardom in the teen vocal group Mista (produced by Organized Noize), who delivered a classic hit with 1996’s “Blackberry Molasses.” Bobby eventually returned to school, receiving a degree from Clark Atlanta University in 2003. He was later ‘discovered’ by multi-platinum award-winning rapper Chris "Ludacris" Bridges and his business partner, Chaka Zulu, President, Disturbing Tha Peace, who signed Valentino to DTP. After completing a 32-city promotional tour of major and secondary markets in early 2005, he appeared on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live and Live with Regis & Kelly. Bobby then earned the headlining spot on the year’s hottest package tour, the 7-week “Scream Tour IV: The Heart Throbs,” also starring Bow Wow, Omarion, and Marques Houston, which ran from July through September, presented by BET in conjunction with ACG (Artistic Control Group, Inc.), AWT (Atlanta Worldwide Touring), and So So Def. Bobby’s success was measured with nominations from the 37th Annual Image Awards as Outstanding New Artist, and “Soul Train” Music Awards nominations for Best R&B/Soul Single, Male and Best R&B/Soul or Rap New Artist.
