R&B singer J. Holiday has been arrested for marijuana possession in Maryland after police pulled him over for driving way too fast. The “Bed” singer - real name Nahum Grymes - was spotted in Salisbury "driving in tandem" with another vehicle "at a high rate of speed" on Thursday (Feb 21.) night. When officers approached Grymes' car, they noticed a strong smell of marijuana and a search of the vehicle turned up a nominal amount of the drug, explained Sergeant Frank Russo. The star and his passenger, George Jackson, were both arrested on charges of drug possession. The driver of the other car, Rolland Wesley, was also arrested on various traffic counts, but does not face any drug-related charges. In Other J. Holiday news, the singer is set to kick off his US tour today at the House of Blues in Chicago, IL. As Singersroom recently reported, Holiday and Trey Songz will co-headline the national spring run. J Holiday gained national attention for his hit song “Bed,” while he recently re-re-released ‘Back Of My Lac’ as a Deluxe Edition with new songs and videos.

A hearing for R&B singer R. Kelly, scheduled for yesterday (October 13th), has been postponed until October 27th according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office. The hearing will consist of pre-trial motions and a final date for the actual trial could be set during the proceedings. Cook County Judge Vincent Gaughan will be presiding over the case. Kelly was indicted in June 2002 of an initial 21 counts based on a videotape that allegedly showed Kelly engaging in sex acts with a 14-year-old girl. Seven of those counts were later thrown out. The video allegedly features Kelly with the then 14 year-old niece of Sparkle, one of the singer's former artists and proteges. Since his arrest, Kelly has vigorously denied that the man in the video is actually him. The alleged victim and her parents have also publicly denied that she is the person on the tape. If convicted on the child pornography charges, Kelly could face up to 15 years in state prison, a $100,000 fine and be forced to register as a sex offender.
Religion strikes again. According to reports, students at an Ethiopia religious college are protesting the close ties between the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the government, alleged restrictions on their speech — and Beyonce's recent meeting with their patriarch. 26-year-old R&B singer Beyonce met with the Ethiopian patriarch, Abune Paulos, before performing in skimpy sequined outfits as part of the celebration of the country's millennium. Students were upset and reportedly went on hunger strike because of the closeness of the church to the ruling party and restrictions on their speech, but were also upset over the Beyonce-Paulos meeting. "She provoked the whole situation," says a student, accusing the patriarch of "practically a nonreligious act. It's unacceptable, or inappropriate, to say the least." Authorities were trying to persuade the students to end their hunger strike. The Orthodox Church is Ethiopia's largest, claiming 45 million out of 77 million citizens as members. It is considered to be very close to the government. College official Bedilu Assefa confirmed that students had complained, but said: "What they have done is they have raised some administrative issues regarding food and clinical facilities. Nobody has protested against Beyonce. Never." Not all the protesters were concerned with the singer, or even politics. Student Kinetibebeu Assefa, 25, said that he had joined the protest to demand an improvement in cafeteria food and the firing of some college officials. "There is no problem with Beyonce," he said. "But the (cafeteria) food is poisoned."
