Opeth forced to postpone tour by three days

Posten on: 2008-10-19 12:04:31

Swedish Rock innovators OPETH were set to hit the US shores on October 9th in Tempe when the band's plans were derailed by unforeseen circumstances; unfortunately, along with Tempe's gig went Los Angeles at House Of Blues (10/10 and Fillmore theater in San Francisco on 10/11. FEAR NOT! OPETH are rerouting their tour to add in later SF and LA dates . In support of the new album, Ghost Reveries, which sold 15,000 copies in it's first week, tripling the band's best-ever first week sales to date, and placing the record at #1 on the Billboard Current Hard Music Chart, #8 on the Top Hard Music Chart and #64 on the Top 200 Albums Chart for the week; sets the band up for a successful trek on the North American leg of the GHOST REVERIES World Tour; which runs in North America through mid-November 2005. Supporting the band directly on this run will be Pelican (through Oct 22nd) then Nevermore (beginning the 24th). Openers Fireball Ministry (through Oct 30) then Into Eternity (beginning the 31st) has recently been added to the bill. "After only being able to play 3 or 4 songs on SOUNDS OF THE UNDERGROUND, it will be great to have the freedom to do a 90-minute set encompassing our wide repertoire," says vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt of the band's extended stage time on this outing. Kerrang! Praises GHOST REVERIES as "The best album that anyone will produce this year," and The Aquarian Weekly agrees saying it has "decimated any competition (for best metal release of the year)." Critics all over the world are celebrating OPETH's ability to weave an intricate sonic web unlike any on the rock scene today. Witness the ‘conjuration' for yourself! Fans will be able to purchase a limited supply of advance tickets for these dates at a reduced rate through this link http://tixx1.artistarena.com/opeth/. Opeth and Entombed members pay tribute to late Voivod guitarist

Posten on: 2008-10-19 12:04:31

OPETH frontman Mikael Ã…kerfeldt and ENTOMBED's recently departed guitarist Uffe Cederlund openly admit to owing a musical debt to VOIVOD guitarist Denis "Piggy" D'Amour, who passed away on August 26, 2005. Had it not been for VOIVOD's landmark 1988 album "Dimension Hatr?ss", OPETH would not have been formed. "I listened to that album every day on my way to school for a month and a half," says Mikael Ã…kerfeldt in the latest issue of the Swedish magazine Close-Up. "It was like Piggy totally created his own chords, disharmonic stuff that no one else did back then. For me, a major part of the band's appeal was, 'How is he able to make it sound so disharmonic and crazy?' That's something I wanted to pick out [on the guitar] myself. In essence, it's basically the 'devil's interval,' the chord BLACK SABBATH used in the song 'Black Sabbath'. You play those three tones together in ONE chord and get the VOIVOD feeling. It should be played rhythmically as well. "There have never been any other bands that have sounded like VOIVOD, not even today," continues Ã…kerfeldt. "Many bands cite VOIVOD as a huge influence, but none have really been able to bring it into their own music. However, I would imagine that groups like NEUROSIS probably have listened to VOIVOD quite a lot." Fellow Swede Uffe Cederlund, who last month announced his departure from the legendary death metal outfit ENTOMBED, regards "Rrr???aaarrr!" (1986) and "Killing Technology" (1987) as VOIVOD's finest albums. The guitarist was fortunate to having met Denis "Piggy" D'Amour at two occasions. "I've never heard anyone play guitar the way Piggy did. He must have been completely fucking crazy," Uffe Cederlund tells the magazine. "The band as a whole was so weird in a way. That appealed to certain people, but most people probably didn't get it. Piggy was so original that there was no point in even being influenced by him. If you had nicked something from him, people would've instantly recognized where you got it from. Of the newer generation of acts, CURSED have the same vibe [as VOIVOD], but it's always been punk bands that have that VOIVOD energy. That energy is something that I always wanted ENTOMBED to have."
