Legend speaks of The Fab Four

Posten on: 2007-05-16 18:34:51

Veteran folk legend Bob Dylan has revealed details on his relationship with The Beatles and his particular friendship with George Harrison. In a recent interview for the Rolling Stone magazine, Dylan talked freely about George Harrison's struggle to find his voice within the songwriting duo of John Lennon and Paul McCartney."George got stuck with being the Beatle that had to fight to get songs on records because of Lennon and McCartney. Well, who wouldn't get stuck?" he asked.Dylan continued praising Harrison for his writing talents, saying: "If George had had his own group and was writing his own songs back then, he'd have been probably just as big as anybody."The legend scoffed rumours of competitiveness towards Lennon and McCartney: "They were fantastic singers. Lennon, to this day, it's hard to find a better singer than Lennon was, or than McCartney was and still is."Furthermore, Dylan spoke about Paul McCartney in particular: "I'm in awe of McCartney. He's about the only one that I am in awe of. He can do it all. And he's never let up... He's just so damn effortless.".

Ted Nugent's summer tour

Posten on: 2007-05-15 06:33:50

Michigan rock guitarist Ted Nugent will begin touring America this summer after finishing work on a new studio album entitled "Love Grenade".The uber-man will launch a 50-city starting with June 1 in Ft. Worth, TX. The itinerary spans June, takes a brief break in early July, and then finishes with an action-packed August run that spills into September. The guitarist recently released a YouTube video documenting work on his forthcoming album, "Love Grenade." Produced in the guitarist’s home studio in Waco, TX, by Jack Blades (Nugent’s former bandmate in Damn Yankees), the album is scheduled for a July 2 release, and follows his 2002 studio set, "Craveman."Ted Nugent grabbed headlines recently when he slammed Rage Against the Machine frontman Zack de la Rocha on an episode of the Fox News program "Hannity & Colmes." During the Rage’s reunion performance at last month’s Coachella festival, de la Roacha reportedly proclaimed that the "current [presidential] administration " should be hung and tried and shot," adding that "we need to treat them like the war criminals they are," according to various news reports."We’ve disagreed with a lot of administrations in the past, but none of our rhetoric included threatening lives," Nugent said during his appearance on the Fox program. "These guys [Rage Against the Machine] are over the top, but they’re the lunatic fringe that even your average democrat and liberal doesn’t agree with. But, unfortunately, nobody is silencing these guys—or not necessarily silencing, but condemning this outrageous violence that they’re recommending."June 20071 - Ft. Pink Floyd honour Barrett in tribute gig

Posten on: 2007-05-14 13:27:06

Classic line-up of the legendary supergroup Pink Floyd turns up for a Syd Barrett tribute gig.The band have performed on 10th of May at a gig in honour of ex-bandmate Syd Barrett - but the dreams of many, reunion of the group, didn't happen on the night. The two creative engines after the psychedelic era - Roger Waters and David Gilmour, who famously fell out in the 1980s, appeared separately at the tribute gig at London's Barbican Centre.Gilmour, the guitar and voice of Pink Floyd, was joined by the band's drummer Nick Mason and keyboard player Rick Wright, while Waters performed solo.Rumours of the 'classic' Floyd line-up reuniting have been rife since they put their differences behind them to perform at Live8 in 2005.However Waters didn't join in the final performance of 'Bike', which featured all the evening's other performers, including Damon Albarn and Chrissie Hynde.'Arnold Layne' - composed by Barrett and which gave the band their first hit, was among the classic tracks performed by the bandWaters played his own song, 'Flickering Flame'.According to BBC News, the bassist, said he found smaller shows "more frightening" because he had a "sense of shame" - which Barrett did not suffer from."Before the illness, he kind of lived his life like he walked," the said onstage. "I think it's because of his lack of a sense of shame that he was able to take all the creative risks he did."The "illness" was a mental deterioration triggered by LSD abuse, which led to Barrett leaving the band in 1968 and living most of the rest of his life as a recluse in Cambridge. There he reverted to his real name, Roger, and spent most of his time cycling and painting.Barrett died in July 2006 aged 60 following complications arising from diabetes.

Guitarist fired and drummer quits

Posten on: 2007-05-08 08:49:34

Goth rock band Evanescence has lost another two of their members, after guitarist John LeCompt was fired on Friday, and drummer Rocky Gray quit shortly after."I'm done, and I'm pretty upset about it," LeCompt said, calling from Little Rock, Ark., the band's home town. "(Singer) Amy Lee called and fired me today. There's absolutely no loyalty in this band."As rumours that the band was splitting spread, Lee denied Evanescence was on the rocks on the band's official website.Evanescence, touring in support of its second major release "The Open Door," is on a short break after returning from South Africa. The group has two dates scheduled later this month before plans to tour Europe, beginning in Paris on May 25.A phone message to the press office at Wind-Up Records in New York seeking comment was not immediately returned.LeCompt, 34, said he and Gray, 32, plan to pour all their energy into a new band, Machina, managed by Chris Long (Crossfade). Gray wasn't available for comment."Machina is an incredible band -- it's rock and roll," LeCompt said.Evanescence's first major release, "Fallen," featuring the hits "Bring Me to Life" and "My Immortal," has sold 14 millions copies worldwide, 6.6 million in the United States. It's one of eight albums in Billboard history to spend at least one year in the top 50. In 2004, the band won Grammys for Best Hard Rock Performance and Best New Artist. The followup, "Open Door," was released in October, selling nearly 500,000 copies in the United States in its first week and debuting at No. 1 on Billboard. It's sold about four million worldwide. This is not the first time Evanescence has had personnel problems. In 2003, guitarist and co-founder Ben Moody quit while the band was touring in Europe, replaced by Terry Balasamo from Cold. Last July, bassist Will Boyd quit, replaced by Tim McCord from Revolution Smile.
