R&B superstar Mariah Carey takes a massive leap as her new disc E=MC˛ enters this weeks Billboard pop album chart at #1, with first week Soundscan sales of 463,000 units. E=MC˛ also debuts #1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop albums chart and #1 on the Top Digital albums chart (Mariah's first-ever #1 digital album debut with over 50,000 scanned!). E=MC˛ also represents the biggest first week debut of Mariah’s career."Mariah's an inspiration, the true definition of a star," said Antonio ‘L.A.’ Reid, Chairman, Island Def Jam Music Group. "She continues to amaze us with every incredible new album she creates. Now Mariah has added another plateau of success to what has become her virtually unapproachable track record on charts around the world. She proves beyond a doubt that with talent, ambition, and sheer force of will, all things are possible." Mariah reached an historic career achievement earlier this month when “Touch My Body” became her 18th #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 – surpassing one of the most enduring chart records in Billboard history, Elvis Presley’s 17 #1’s. “Touch My Body”’s two weeks at the top marked Mariah’s 78th and 79th cumulative career weeks at #1, which tied Elvis’ long-standing all-time high of 79 weeks at #1, as calculated in Billboard. At the same time, Mariah is now positioned as the only active recording artist in the 50 years of the Hot 100 (which began in 1958) with the potential to surpass the Beatles’ all-time high of 20 #1 hits. Carey’s latest single “Bye Bye” impacted across-the-board at Pop, Rhythmic, and Urban radio formats on Monday, April 21 and is #1 most added across the board. The 11th studio album of her career, E=MC˛ follows-up The Emancipation Of Mimi, Mariah’s worldwide 10 million selling #1 album, which generated three Grammy awards (including Best Contemporary R&B Album), two #1 singles, and countless more honors during its 18-month stay on the charts. Released April 12, 2005, Mimi was an industry phenomenon for the mega-platinum award-winning superstar. Soundscan’s biggest-selling album of the year, it brought total sales of Mariah’s albums, singles and videos to over 160 million worldwide, making her the top-selling female recording artist in history.
A woman charged with assaulting and robbing Foxy Brown was released from jail after the rapper failed to appear before a grand jury to testify against her. Roshawn Anthony, 23, was released from Riker's Island on her own terms Thursday but still faces charges of robbery, assault and grand larceny in the alleged attack last Saturday, according to a spokesman for the Brooklyn district attorney's office. She has denied the charges. Anthony is scheduled to return to court Aug. 9. Rapper Eve was spared jail time after pleading no contest to driving while under the influence yesterday (Jun 28). The rapper-and-actress did not attend the Los Angeles court hearing but her attorney Blair Berk entered the plea and said she admitted to driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol level or higher when she crashed her car on April 26. Berk said: "She's a very gifted artist and she is treating this with appropriate seriousness." As part of the plea bargain the prosecution dropped two other charges of driving impaired and driving without proof of insurance. The 28-year-old - real name Eve Jeffers - must stay sober for 45 days and wear an alcohol-monitoring device on her ankle during that time. Eve was fined $1,400 and placed on three years' informal probation. She must also attend a series of classes for first-time drunk-driving offenders. Rapper Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson is in final negotiations to join Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in "Righteous Kill," a crime thriller that starts shooting in September. Fiddy has previously starred in "Get Rich or Die Tryin,'" a 2005 movie based on his drug-dealing past. He most recently appeared in last year's "Home of the Brave" and has three other films in the works: "The Ski Mask Way," "Live Bet" and "The Dance."

Fans are so anxious to get the new CHIMAIRA material that one of them "stole" the video to "Nothing Remains", the first single off the self-titled album that will be in stores August 9, and put it up all over the web. The video was stolen from the director's web site after the fan illegally hacked in. Still in its inital editing phase, the video had yet to be seen by the band or executives at Roadrunner Records. Commented singer Mark Hunter: "It's exciting to see that our fans are itching to get a hold of our new material, and to see that they actually enjoyed the video. However, the video was in its infant stage and while we are extremely proud of where it stands now, we know that it will be much better when it is finished. I can't wait for our fans to see the finished version and as soon as it's done I'll put it up on the web myself." The follow-up to 2003's "The Impossibility of Reason", "Chimaira" was recorded at Spider Studios in Ohio with producer Ben Schigel, who has described the new material as having "more of an epic kind of vibe. The songs are a lot longer, but we found a way to make them long without being boring. Now that it's coming together, it sounds way more brutal." Mixing duties were handled by Colin Richardson (MACHINE HEAD, FEAR FACTORY, NAPALM DEATH).
