After six years of waiting, R&B singer Maxwell finally gives fans a peek of his highly anticipated new album. Today (Sept. 7), Maxwell uploaded a snippet of "Pretty Wings" on his MySpace site, the singer's first communication about new music since announcing his next album, "Black Summer's Night," on the site in October 2006. Columbia Records music exec Kyambo "Hip-Hop" Joshua tells Billboard he expects the album, originally due in February 2007, next year. "Maxwell's still working with Sade's band, his tried-and-true team," he says. "He took some time off and now he's ready." "He's recorded so much material that he's got a couple of albums done," he continues. "So, he might be going out on the road touring for this album soon. I won't say the album will drop first-quarter 2008, but [next] summer sounds good." Maxwell's last album, "Now," was released in 2001 and has sold more than 1.7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Maxwell was to release a studio album on Columbia Records in February 2007 under the title 'Black Summers' Night'. On the morning of February 14, 2007, Maxwell posted a blog on his MySpace page, explaining the delay. He also posted an audio message apologizing to fans for the delay. In a blog posted to Maxwell's MySpace page on July 25, 2007, it states that Maxwell is still working on his upcoming album. He goes on to thank his loyal fans for being patient.
After a long hiatus from his fans, R&B soulman Maxwell will head out on the road this fall, beginning Oct. 8 in Boston and running through Nov. 21 in Philadelphia, reports Billboard Maxwell, who has not released an album or toured in over six years, is still in the studio working on his long awaited three-part follow-up, "Black Summers' Night." No release date has been set for the project. The most recent details about "Black Summers' Night" came last September, when Columbia urban music exec Kyambo "Hip-Hop" Joshua told Billboard that "Maxwell's still working with Sade's band, his tried-and-true team. He took some time off and now he's ready." Joshua added, "He's recorded so much material that he's got a couple of albums done." Last Sept (07) Maxwell uploaded a snippet of "Pretty Wings" on his MySpace site, the singer's first communication about new music since announcing the "Black Summer's Night," on the site in October 2006. He also made his first major appearance in recent memory at the BET Awards in June, performing "Simply Beautiful" as part of an Al Green tribute. The man who melted the hearts of many ladies and helped conjured many of the youngsters of today is back. R&B singer and songwriter Maxell is set to release ?Black Summers? Night,? his highly anticipated comeback LP, around Valentine?s eve. The set will be the first of three releases under Maxwell?s new deal with Columbia Records. According Maxwell?s Myspace (http://myspace.com/maxwell), the release of the first single was pushed back from the Oct. 11 date. "Due to scheduling obligations with Columbia Records, we are not able to release the new single to MySpace at this time." A non-working audio file of a song called "Fistfull of Tears" currently appears on the site. In a message posted on Sept. 1, Maxwell wrote, "The last week of letters and comments have done a lot to get a brother off that couch and on to the studio. Who knew after five years that anyone would be around? You proved me wrong and I thank you for it. It feels so right to be back with you." "Black Summer's Night" will be Maxwell's first release since 2001's "Now," which has sold 1.7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan and spawned the hit singles "Lifetime," and "This Woman's Work."
