A celebrity-filled party hosted by Jermaine Dupri was interrupted by gunshots early Saturday morning. Gunfire erupted at 3:30 AM at the party, held at Atlanta's Club Dreams, DeKalb County police spokesman Marcus Hodge told WSBTV's Action News. The event kicked off Dupri's So So Def Summerfest weekend, with guests reportedly including music stars Diddy, Usher and Nelly, actresses Gabrielle Union and Regina King and actor Larenz Tate. "I'm sad this incident happened because it interrupted a beautiful and loving party," Dupri said in a statement released to Access Hollywood. "I'm happy none of my people or friends got hurt. And the party continues." According to Hodge however, a club security guard was struck in the arm. The injured guard was reportedly transported to an area hospital, where he was treated and released. "The shooting was an isolated incident," a rep for the So So Def Summerfest Weekend told WSBTV. The shooting occurred after some guests were allegedly double-charged by security guards to enter the club and became rowdy. After being escorted out of the club, Hodge said, an unknown male revealed a gun and opened fire. According to Vibe.com, A Party in Atlanta hosted by R&B producer Jermaine Dupri ended in gunfire Sunday night (Jul 30th) and left three party-goers hospitalized with bullet wounds. Atlanta Police say the shooting at The Peach Ballroom was prompted by an attempted robbery. After one man attempted to steal another man?s chain, shots rang out and three women were struck. The party was the final event in a series of weekend events sponsored by Dupri?s record label So So Def. Meanwhile, reports have been circulating about JD stating that comparisons between singer Beyonce and his girlfriend, Janet Jackson, are ludicrous, especially since, according to JD, "Only Janet records sound like her. I always look and think, 'Where's Beyonce going to be in 20 years?' It's hard for me to visualize. I don't put them on the same plane." Both Janet and Beyonce are dropping albums next month, 20 Y.O., on the 26th, and B-day on the 5th, respectively.
Music mogul JERMAINE DUPRI has ended weeks of speculation by confirming he is definitely working on a duet between JANET JACKSON and MARIAH CAREY. According to MTV, Carey insisted she knew nothing about the reported collaboration during a recent interview, but confessed she was a big fan of Jackson's. But now Dupri, admits he's working on the track that will bring the two R&B diva together on a record for the first time. He tells MTV News, "I got a mean idea, so look for it. It's gonna happen... Please believe that." Dupri, who is largely responsible for Carey's 2005 comeback, insists the duet could be wrapped up in time for the repackaged release of Jackson's much-anticipated new album 20 YEARS OLD. He adds, "We're definitely gonna do a repackage on the album once it comes out. Hopefully it's successful and people buy into it, then I'm going back in the studio. "The closer I get to that idea (for Janet and Mariah), the more I know where it should be at. It's feeling like it's gonna happen."
R&B producer Jermaine Dupri, the boyfriend of Janet Jackson, has confirmed to The Associated Press that he resigned from his top executive position at Virgin Records, squashing rumors that he was forced out. "Since there are so many rumors running rampant about my position at Virgin Records, I feel that it is necessary to set the record straight," Dupri tells AP. "I was not forced out of the company, I made a decision that it was in my best interest to leave." Dupri became head of urban music at Virgin, a unit of EMI Group PLC, just last year. His sudden departure comes after the disappointing sales of Jackson's new album "20 Y.O." Dupri was an executive producer of the album and helped determine its creative vision, along with Jackson and her longtime producers, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis. Dupri declined further comment on his departure.
Though Janet Jackson's new album "20 Y.O." has sold 500,000 copies, which is gold in the US, it?s still considered a flop because she is a major superstar. Due to that disappointment -- plus a number of other "creative differences" issues -- Jackson's super-producer boyfriend Jermaine Dupri was forced out as head of Virgin Records' urban division over the weekend. As foxnews.com reported, Jackson's CD dropped a surprising 77 percent in sales in its second week -- perhaps because it lacked radio airplay and/or received poor reviews. Jermaine blames Virgin for not getting the album enough airplay and not working it. Was Dupri dumped or did he jump Ship? Make Comments
