R&B singer Jennifer Hudson, who already has an Oscar and a Golden Globe plaque under her belt, is looking to triple those awards with a Grammy in 2008. Hudson tells PEOPLE, "I used to watch the Grammys and dream of winning one, maybe that can be next on my list." Hudson, who was attending a New Year's Eve event headlined by the Dreamgirls star in Miami, wore a bright red Donna Karan sleeveless dress and more than $150,000 in jewelry specially designed by Rosalina Lydster. Guests at the Setai paid up to $60,000 per table to dine on Peking duck salad and roasted tenderloin by the poolside. Actor Dylan McDermott posed for pictures with guests before taking the stage to introduce Hudson as "one of the most talented people on the planet." Hudson, 26, received an enthusiastic welcome from the crowd as she sang hits from Dreamgirls as well as "Happy Place," a song from her upcoming album. Despite Hudson's banner year in 2007, she believes 2008 will be even better for her. "I get to sing this year," she says. "I love acting and I hope I don't ever have to choose between acting and singing, but singing is what I worked 17 years to do. That's what I dreamed of. And I get to do it this year." Hudson, who also appears in the upcoming big-screen version of Sex and the City, adds: "I still don't exactly believe everything that has happened to me. Every day, it's like 'Thank you God.'"
Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson has joined the cast of "Sex and the City: The Movie," which begins filming next week in New York, reports the Hollywood Reporter. Hudson will play the assistant to Sarah Jessica Parker's character, Carrie Bradshaw, in the film based on the hit HBO comedy series. In July, the show's four leads, including Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon, came aboard for the film after New Line Cinema agreed to finance and distribute it. Chris Noth also joined the cast to reprise his role as Mr. Big. Michael Patrick King is writing and directing. Hudson, who won an Oscar for her supporting role in "Dreamgirls," recently completed production on the ensemble drama "Winged Creatures" starring Kate Beckinsale, Forrest Whitaker, Jackie Earle Haley and Dakota Fanning. Sony is distributing the film. The former "American Idol" contestant is also in the studio working on her debut album for Arista Records, due for release in the first quarter of 2008.
The Hollywood stars seem to be aligned for Jennifer Hudson. Access Hollywood has confirmed that the former "American Idol" contestant signed a record deal with Clive Davis' J Records. Jennifer revealed her plans to Access this past Saturday at the "A Fine Romance" event in Hollywood. "My album, I'll be recording my album! I just signed my record deal 2 weeks ago. So I'm starting on that in January." At J Records, Ms. Hudson joins such music giants as Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, and Barry Manilow, but Jennifer will also feel right at home with her former "Idol"-mates as the J/Arista label houses many of her "Idol" counterparts like Carrie Underwood, Fantasia, Ruben Studdard and Taylor Hicks. The J Records label is part of the Sony BMG music conglomerate.
