Surrealistic Pillow - 1967

Jefferson Airplane is one of the quintesential rock bands to come out of the sixties era, and their second album Surrealistic Pillow is billed as the band's best-ever work, a groundbreaking piece of folk-rock-based psychedelia.

The band formed in 1964 in San Francisco and epitomized the essence of the drug-taking hippie scene, as well as the

left-wing, antiwar political movement.

In the few years before they recorded their second record "Surrealistic Pillow", the band changed its line-up several

times. On this album though, new singer Grace Slick adds her stunning vocals to that of founding member Marty Balin. Listen

out for this powerful combination on their well-know hit "Somebody to Love". Both this single and the album itself reached

the top ten.

"Surrealistic Pillow" went on to become Jefferson Airplane's first gold album. Other song highlights on the record include

the psychedelic ballad "White Rabbit" penned by Grace Slick, and the gentle folk tune "Today".
