Dwight Yoakam

Dwight Yoakam - Truckin' guitar chord

Dwight Yoakam - Truckin'

By axehappy - axehappy@

I've tabbed this with a capo on 1st fret, because the song is in Eb.

Really, you should detune your guitar a half-step to play this, but I hate

detuning, and its for this reason I haven't tabbed any lead for this song.

So its just chords for now....I'm sure I'll put the lead up sooner or later though.

Capo 1st fret...

Chord names and shapes are relative to position of capo.

Real chord names are in square brackets below.

D (Eb) = xx0232 G (Ab) = 320003

A (Bb) = x02220 C (Db) = x32010

A7 (Bb7) = x02020 E (F) = 022100

INTRO

D

Truckin', got my chips cashed in.

G

Truckin', like the doodah man.

A

Together, more or less in line,

G D

Just keep truckin' on.

D

Arrows of neon and flashing marquees out on Main Street,

Chicago, New York, Detroit, it's all the same street.

Your typical city involved in a typical daydream,

Hang it up and see what tomorrow brings.

D

Dallas, got a soft machine.

G

Houston, too close to New Orleans.

A

New York, got the ways and means,

G D

But just won't let you be.

D

Most of the cats you meet on the street speak of true love,

Most of the time they're sittin' and cryin' at home.

One of these days they know they gotta get goin',

Out of the door and down the street all alone.

D

Truckin', like the doodah man.

G

Once told me you got to play your hand.

A

Sometimes, the cards ain't worth a damn,

G D

If you don't lay 'em down.

G C G

Sometimes the light's all shining on me,

C G

Other times I can barely see.

C A7 E

Lately it occurs to me,

G D

What a long strange trip it's been.

D

Hey, what in the world ever became of sweet Jane?

She lost her sparkle, you know she isn't the same.

Living on reds, vitamin C and cocaine,

All a friend can say is "Ain't it a shame."

D

Truckin', up to Buffalo.

G

Been thinkin', you got to mellow, slow.

A

Take time, you pick a place to go,

G D

And just keep truckin' on.

D

Sittin' and staring out of a hotel window,

Got a tip they're kicking the door in again.

I'd like to get some sleep before I travel,

But if you got a warrant I guess you're gonna come in.

D

Busted, down on Bourbon Street,

G

Set up like a bowling pin.

A

Knocked down, it gets to wearing thin,

G D

They just won't let you be.

D

You're sick of hanging around and you'd like to travel,

Get tired of travelin', you'd like to settle down.

I guess they can't revoke your soul for trying,

Get out of the door, light out and look all around.

G C G

Sometimes the light's all shining on me,

C G

Other times I can barely see.

C A7 E

Lately it occurs to me,

G D

What a long strange trip it's been.

D

Truckin', I'm a-goin' home,

G

Whoa-oh baby, back where I belong.

A

Back home, sit down and patch my bones,

G D

And get back truckin' on.
